Text: "V means, Germany wins for Europe on all fronts"

V-action

In the spring of 1941, the Dutch section of the BBC called on listeners in occupied territory to chalk the letter V (V for Victory!) on the walls as an expression of their anti-German affiliation. In late June that year, a variant was introduced: the V in Morse, three short taps and one long tap.

To cope with this situation, Goebbels decided to simply adopt the V sign: "V=Victory, because Germany is winning for Europe on all fronts" was the slogan, to which variants followed. Throughout occupied Europe, the German V-action was launched exactly at midnight on July 18, 1941. That morning the entire Netherlands was filled with V posters. And stamps were printed.

In het voorjaar van 1941 riep de Nederlandse sectie van de BBC de luisteraars in bezet gebied op de letter V (V for Victory!) op de muren te kalken als uiting van hun anti-Duitse gezindheid. Eind juni dat jaar werd op een variant geïntroduceerd: de V in morse, drie korte en één lange tik.

Om aan deze situatie het hoofd te bieden besloot Goebbels het V-teken simpelweg over te nemen: "V=Victorie, want Duitsland wint voor Europa op alle fronten" was de leus, waarop varianten volgden. In heel bezet Europa werd de Duitse V-actie op 18 juli 1941 precies om middernacht ingezet. Die ochtend hing heel Nederland vol met V-affiches. En werden zegels heirvan gedrukt.
